Checho's: A Beachside Mexican Destination in Cronulla
Bold Mexican Energy Lands on Cronulla's Waterfront
Official: Chechos Website | Instagram: @chechosau
Checho's opened its fifth venue in June 2026 on Ocean Grove Avenue in Cronulla, steps from the sand on Sydney's southern coastline. The 135-seat restaurant brings the brand's signature Mexican energy to a revitalised seaside precinct, serving $10 daily tacos, share-style plates, and the 1.2L handbag cocktails that have become a social media staple. RON GROUP supplied the furniture and decor package that turns a bright coastal space into a full-service destination for casual lunches, family dinners, and weekend parties.
"RON GROUP translated our Cronulla concept into a complete furniture and decor package that captures the brand's playful energy while standing up to daily coastal service. The space opened ready for the weekend crowds, from beachside lunches to bottomless brunch parties." — Checho's Team
Brand Background
Checho's is a Sydney-born contemporary Mexican brand that has grown to five venues across Wollongong, Penrith, Camden, Castle Hill, and Cronulla. The Cronulla outlet is the newest addition, landing in a revitalised seaside town centre just moments from the beach and opening as a 135-seat, all-occasion destination. The brand built its following on bold flavours and a festive social scene, with daily $10 tacos, generous sharing plates, and oversized handbag cocktails that guests photograph and share across social media.
From its first Penrith restaurant in 2020, the brand has refined a visual identity built on colour, craft materials, and relaxed holiday energy. Each new venue reproduces that identity while adapting to its location, which makes furniture and decor coordination central to the expansion model. For Cronulla, the challenge was to deliver the same recognisable Checho's atmosphere in a coastal setting where guests move between the beach, the bar, and the dining floor throughout the day.
The floor plan divides the venue into clear operational zones: a window-side dining area for lunch and dinner, a central bar zone for cocktails and quick visits, and booth-style seating for larger groups. The layout keeps service routes short while letting each zone respond to a different guest moment, from a post-beach drink to a long group celebration. It also gives the operations team a predictable rhythm for resetting tables between the venue's busy weekend services.
Client Needs
- A complete dining and bar furniture package that reproduces Checho's signature colourful Mexican identity
- Durable tables, chairs, and bar seating for high-turnover coastal service and weekend event crowds
- A flexible seating mix for couples, families, and group celebrations within a 135-seat footprint
- Bar furniture and shelving that support the venue's signature cocktail and bottomless brunch operations
- Materials and finishes that stay presentable near the beach and remain easy to clean between services
How We Meet the Vision
A Signature Colour Story
Checkered tabletops, pink menus, and warm terracotta flooring repeat the brand's playful palette across every zone. The consistency means a guest walking in from the beach immediately recognises the Checho's look, whether they sit at a two-top or at the bar. Each finish was selected to hold its colour through daily service and frequent cleaning.
Seating Built for High Traffic
Woven chairs, upholstered benches, and bar stools combine visual character with the durability required by a venue that turns over quickly on weekends. The varied seating mix lets staff reconfigure zones for different group sizes without moving furniture between services. Comfortable support also encourages guests to stay longer, supporting both guest satisfaction and per-table revenue.
Bar and Beverage Zones
The marble bar counter, white bar stools, and arched bottle shelving were coordinated as one package so the cocktail programme has a functional and photogenic home. Backlit shelving and pendant lighting frame the bar as the room's social anchor, while the layout keeps bartenders within reach of every service point. The same zone absorbs the weekend bottomless brunch crowd without disrupting table service.
Lighting and Decorative Anchors
Arched niches with golden backlighting, neon cactus signage, and potted greenery give the space its Instagram-ready atmosphere while supporting wayfinding across the floor. These decorative elements were supplied as part of the coordinated package, so they share a consistent finish language with the furniture. The result is a venue that photographs well at every hour of service, from bright lunchtime to late-night cocktails.
Process
RON GROUP coordinated the complete furniture and decor package for Checho's Cronulla, from dining tables and seating to bar counters, shelving, lighting, and decorative elements. The sourcing team matched materials for colour, texture, and durability across every zone, then managed delivery so the venue could complete its fit-out and open on schedule for the summer season. Because Cronulla is the brand's flagship new location, the package was specified against the same visual standard as the brand's earlier venues.
The final setup supports the venue's daily rhythm while keeping one coherent design language from the window-side tables to the central bar. Each product category was selected for coastal durability, so the collection wears evenly through busy weekends rather than showing patchy ageing. For Checho's, that means the Cronulla space stays photo-ready from the first lunch service to the last cocktail of the evening.

With RON GROUP's supply support, the restaurant opened with a full 135-seat layout that serves casual lunches, family dinners, and weekend parties without losing its visual identity.
